Who are we?

SocioTransit is a social network courier, and a way for you  to earn extra money during your travels, whether local-domestic or international travels. Also SocioTransit is the way to get things from wherever you want - the faster, smarter and greener way. An answer to our daily life courier situations and getting things transported quickly, at lower charges!

SocioTransit, founded in January 2013, is a concept born in the design capital of the world, Copenhagen, Denmark. In Bangalore it grew from infancy to toddler where core Design & Development is happening. Strategy and international marketing are being planned at Copenhagen.

Shivanee Pranav Shah, Alap Shah and Niral Desai jointly form a team of Design-Development-Marketing experts. Together they have been awarded with the UX Design Award Grand Prize. Before working on this, they have had immense expertise and experience with international people and market needs. SocioTransit can boast of being in the Ivy league of finalists in the Betapitch competition in Denmark and are now on the prestigious ‘LaunchPad’ programme driven by the Danish Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Whom do we cater to?

SocioTransit - a social networking service that matches traveller and wanter for swift transit of the goods.

SocioTransit caters to 2 type of users :

1. Traveller - Anyone traveling by flight-train-bus-ferry-car-bike and is willing to carry someone’s package - in turn they earn money for this service.

2. Wanter - One who wants things to be transported from one place to another. It can be something that was recently bought, or extra luggage, or a forgotten package.

What do we offer to our consumers?

1) Opportunity to earn extra money for travellers.

2) Help wanter to get anything from anywhere, it could be :

  • A forgotten document from your travel origin.
  • Mom’s homemade food item.
  • An exotic souvenir from Africa or a Bourgogne Chardonnay from France.
  • Singapore electronics or Indian spices.

3) Convert social networking users to smarter traveller/wanter.

So helping friends and people is a good thing and getting money to do so is even better. The two interested parties may talk to each other through an integrated chat/message protocol.

Thus, SocioTransit is a step forwards towards sustainability, reduction of carbon footprint and utilization of excess luggage space of the traveller effectively rather than making a special goods transit.

What motivated us to start up?

On various forums like Facebook, Twitter, sms, Whatsapp, Linkedin, emails, forums, blogs etc; we observed people asking each other, on their friend circles, if someone was travelling from a specific destination to another specific destination. We were motivated to take this question to friends of friends and the entire travelling community across the globe ! And idea came up : sociotransit.com

What's in a name?

The name SocioTransit (TradeMark pending) is anointed to suggest - social networking marries transits. Local, domestic & global travels!

How do we see Social Media?

Social media is our backbone because that is where all the action happens. Social media is dominating the arenas of global finance, sociology, psychology, travel, trade and commerce, and even global politics.

The name of the project has also been derived from Social Media!

Currently we are....

After rigorous user testings and development, last week we launched our SocioTransit beta version; many people already signed up and explored our website. So far we have some 35+ trips, 10+ users, 750+ likes on Facebook. We were finalists in the Betapitch competition in Denmark, and are now on the prestigious ‘LaunchPad’ programme driven by the Danish Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

We also launched a teaser video, which can be checked at " target="_blank">Youtube and  " target="_blank">Vimeo.

As a team, we also got a couple of guys on board for their technical expertise and SEO.

Our biggest challenge was..

To organise bootstrapping funds, get early traction in social media, get users to make successful transactions - you are welcome to be our user and help us.

We want to dominate the world by..

Making each traveller a SocioTransit traveller. Also by helping wanters to satisfy all their needs and greeds - soonest! We don't want people to be dependent on e-commerce websites only, but to get things through people. We want to bring people together - globally.

We're making moolah by...

As of now, our service is FREE. Wanter just needs to pay the item cost he wished from the traveller. Soon, for making service more professional, secure and insured, SocioTransit will have a payment gateway for smooth transactions and the traveler will be charged 3-5% of his earnings; mainly as maintenance and service charge. We will also be capturing data about what kind of transits happen and where they take place. And data is precious.

Our What The **** Moment

When we released our promotional video and got 750 likes on Facebook just within a week! And got call from the Danish Ministry. We also celebrated our first 5 successful transits within a week.

We have just seen the tip of the iceberg, the best is yet to come!
