The world is getting smaller each day as the presence of social media and its effects is increasing. The Indian political environment is no exception to this phenomenon. With BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi using social media to his advantage it was on the cards that Arun Jaitley, the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the biggest critic of politicians’ using social media platforms, finally bowed to the power of Facebook and Twitter.
Arun Jaitley has become a prominent Indian politician across major social media platforms. On 22nd February, 2014, the Twitterati could directly shoot their questions to Arun Jaitley using the hashtag #AskJaitley. This was the second time Arun Jaitley was interacting with the masses via social media channel-Twitter. The impact of the session was tremendous, not to the extent of what it would have been had it been Narendra Modi, Prime Ministerial candidate, but it was still a trending topic on the social media platform.
