My Woo Diaries - An unexpected experience!
My love – hate relationship with dating apps has been source of buckets of humour, if nothing else. Conversations would usually start with witty flirts, eventually grow into exchange of numbers and end in first dates. Literally end! I would never agree for a second date. They were too needy, too arrogant, too self obsessed, or my favourite – I just couldn’t connect with them.

A sucker for intelligent conversations with high sarcasm levels leaves you with very less scope to find an interesting match in geo targeted scenarios. But, who gets that!

Also, off the topic – ladies and gentlemen can we rise above dinosaur era of flirting and make way for real conversations?

Anyway, after eons of cribbing and millions of first date stories, my friend questioned the very reason of my existence on those apps, if they were that annoying!

I might have managed to blow her off with a witty comeback, but, the thought stuck. She did have a valid point.

Following a gruesome process of uninstalling and re-installing these apps, I figured out the One of the many things that I was doing wrong. I always treated it as a backup option – something I would resort to when all else failed, when in fact these apps helped me create some really special bonds.

Deciding to go beyond the silly stigmas, I unmasked and geared up for the best. Incidentally, this is when I was introduced to Woo in my office space. The timing couldn’t have been better!

I did like their verification process and was very relieved that it did not offer geo-targeted matches. I’m in the same area; you’re in the same area – so let’s hook up; that really puts me off.

Anyway, my relief however, was short lived – a few swipes here and there, I still hadn’t had a sensible conversation. The app soon got lost in my daily chores with me logging in, only to reply with customary templates.

I would have been a much happy person, had I know that things were to soon take a turn.

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, Woo flashed a notification urging me to try out their Question Cast. It was like broadcasting a question – anything that interests you, as a conversation starter.

Out of sheer boredom I put a question – Any F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fans out there? And drifted off in deep slumber.
What I woke up to was indeed startling. There were more than 10 replies on my questions. Quoting famous dialogues, discussing favourite characters – suddenly I was conversing with a bunch of really sweet people on the one topic that I can speak on without going breathless.

Not to gloat, but I did find this one person, I love talking to till date. He claimed to be a bigger F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fan than myself. We quizzed each other on the sitcom’s trivia all weekend. With the new week, I had a new person in my life who I really adored.

My next question was on the TinyOwl layoff and I must say, the journalist in me was really happy. Insightful conversations and new connections, it was nothing like my previous dating app experiences.
Another feature that really struck was that the app does not allow you to upload low resolution images as the profile picture – this reduces the chances of fake profiles dramatically.

It would be a lie to say that I honestly thought that I’d find love on Woo. Using it for a few days however, changed things. It was realisation - everlasting bonds can be made when you find genuine people out there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someday I end up with the person who wooed me on Woo.

If you’d like to give Woo a shot, simply download it from the Google Playstore or the App Store.
