In a surprising development, Facebook India MD, Umang Bedi has concluded his association with the social networking giant and has resigned from his position.
It has been confirmed by Facebook India, and outgoing Umang Bedi is being replaced by Sandeep Bhushan, who will occupy the interim position of Facebook India MD.
Facebook India verified the reports of Umang Bedi’s departure, “We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role and Facebook at the end of this year. He’s built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best.”
Previously associated with Hindustan Times Media as the Vice President for Digital, Sandeep has also formerly worked with Samsung IT, and was currently working with Facebook, handling their revenue streams before being elevated as interim Facebook India MD.
Taking charge from Facebook India CEO Kirthiga Reddy over a year ago, Umang Bedi had worked as MD at Adobe Systems Inc. South Asia region.
Kirthiga Reddy, credited with being the first employee for Facebook India and also for building Facebook’s operations in the country from the ground up, resumed her work with Facebook, although at their headquarters in California, USA.
India accounts for more than 240 million Facebook users, becoming one of the biggest audience country for the social networking behemoth, which beats the previous holder of the position, the United States of America.
India is now said to have a potential audience of 241 million, ahead of the United States of America, who are now in second place, behind India with 240 million users.
