#SMLive 2019

We, the folks at Social Samosa are all set to pay tribute to the world of Social Media - a medium which is a driving factor for the evolution, existence, and sustenance of quite a lot of Brands, Agencies, Publishers, Platforms, and Creators!

Into it’s third year, Social Samosa’s #SMLive 2019 promises a bigger and distinct platform for knowledge sharing with an elite group of panelists and speakers speaking on June 30, on the occassion of World Social Media Day.

Babita Baruah, Managing Partner, GTB India will be delivering a  keynote on Is Behavioural Science the secret sauce of digital storytelling at 9.30 AM.

Likewise, the last edition had some wonderful minds from the world of creativity and content to deliver a great show. The Conference reached over 2 Million People on Facebook and we managed to garner 1L+ video views across sessions where the speakers touched upon an array of topics.

An inspiring keynote address from Ashish Bhasin Chairman and CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network, South Asia put the spotlight on ‘The Indian Digital Landscape (Past, Present, and Future)’. Bhasin felt that the best in advertising & marketing is yet to come. “It’s time digital agencies start hiring new age versions of Piyush Pandey, Alyque Padamsee, and such! We as an industry haven’t evolved with a common currency to measure the impact of influencer marketing. The equivalent of digital hasn’t evolved. In Indian marketing the currency will have to be multimedia,” he said.

Next on the live screen was Tanvi Gautam, C-Suite Advisor Founder at Leadershift Inc talking about ‘Building a Power Profile on Social Media’. Gautam was of the opinion that Content is king but context is the queen. While explaining the power of social influence she said, having influence is different from amplification of influence. And community helps one amplify that influence!

‘The Magic of Data-Driven Storytelling’ was later taken up by Ashish Tiwari, Head of Digital Marketing & PR at Hero Cycles where he highlighted that whenever you’re doing storytelling it is not about you – it has to be about a hero. The hero of data-driven storytelling is your audience.

Ranveer Allahbadia, Founder at BeerBiceps spoke about Surviving the Clutter: Carving a personal niche as a content creator’. He said, “The biggest mistake that brands make is treating influencer marketing and YouTube marketing like TV ads! Right now the YouTube algorithm is very conducive towards regional content. For every English content consumer, we have 9 regional content consumers”. Allahbadia also shared that Video creation is a slightly difficult job and to do it as a career, you need to put up videos on YouTube at least once a week; ideally twice or thrice a week.

“As long as content is entertaining, users don’t care where is it coming from,” stated Sandeep Balan, Head of Digital Marketing at United Breweries Ltd while delivering his thoughts on ‘Branded Content Vs Original Content’. You simply can’t shy away from doing original content. Align with creators. Work on Return on Objective! Also, you can’t go to content creators for short term goals. It has to be a long term process!”

Kainaz Karmakar and Harshad Rajadhyaksha, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy India shared their two bits on Great Advertising. Sharing a piece of advice with the live audience, the duo said that don’t assume that your client isn’t open to or capable of pulling off a big campaign. “The winning ideas are usually the most simple ones, the ones that make you think – Why didn’t I think of it!”

The team of Girliyapa, Creative Head Nidhi Bisht and Brand Lead Sarita Jain spoke their heart out on ‘Creating Digital Entertainment for Women with Brands' and the challenges they overcome in the journey. “There was a huge gap of content for common, career-oriented women & girls! With Girliyapa we have creative freedom and the TVF backing offers reach and logistics.”

We also had Nitin Bhatia, Managing Director – India at Meltwater to talk about ‘Data: The underrated piece of Digital Marketing Puzzle’; Chandramohan Mehra Chief Marketing Officer – Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance on ‘How Bajaj Allianz leveraged the Dancing Uncle Moment’;  Vineet Singh, Head – Delhi & CRM India at Digitas India for ‘Social CRM: Quick Hacks to Win over Audiences on Social Media’.
