Twitter is working on a new feature that lets users limit the people who can reply to the tweet.
The new conversation settings on Twitter has three options:
- Everyone(Default)
- Only people you follow
- Only people you mention
Users can still view & like the tweet, retweet & retweet with comment. Tweets set for specific replies will be labeled with the reply icon grayed out.
The new feature seems to be a simplified version of the same one released in January in the beta phase. The feature lets users limit replies on their tweets to Global, Group, Panel, and Statement.
Global - everyone is allowed to reply to the tweet, Group - the people user follows and has mentioned in the tweet, Panel - only the ones mentioned in the tweet, and Statement disallowed anyone to tweet back.

Although, the initiative to maintain a specific tone of discussion without being derailed by deviating replies, and also limiting unwanted replies, has been long going on with features and their several versions launched in the beta phase.
Hide Replies was one that showed the potential to sustain the course of interaction, everyone could see the conversation, but the user had more control over it.
Twitter says they will be exploring the new feature and see how it is received by the users. Although, the best way to have a conversation with specific people would be DMs.
The new conversation settings are being tested on iOS, Android, and Desktop with a limited amount of people.
