Meta is on its way to no longer just being an advertising platform but also a facilitator of an ad creation tool with its new development in generative AI and full-scale AI research.
Meta is heavily invested in generative AI and has provided a timeline for the commercialization of a tool that would enable the creation of ads, as per a report by Nikkei Asia.
"We've been investing in artificial intelligence for over a decade, and have one of the leading research institutes in the world. I expect we'll start seeing some of them this year. We just created a new team, the generative AI team, a couple of months ago; they are very busy. It's probably the area that I'm spending the most time, as well as Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Cox", said Meta Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth.
He further elaborated that the company has been investing in AI for over a decade, and mentioned that it can save a substantial amount of spending on the creation and also provide variety instead of using a single image for a campaign. Advertisers can ask the AI tool to "Make images for my company that work for different audiences".
This can also be used for metaverse and hyperrealistic virtual spaces. "So previously if I wanted to create a 3D world, I needed to learn a lot of computer graphics and programming. In the future, you might be able to just describe the world you want to create and have the large language model generate that world for you. And so it makes things like content creation much more accessible to more people", he said.
Meta has already launched several AI-based tools, including a multi-stage AI review system to classify content for advertisers to ensure brand suitability controls are in place. It also launched a speech-to-speech translation system powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
The one running parallel with the latest tool in development is Make-A-Video. With few words or lines of text, Make-A-Video can bring imagination to life and create videos full of colors, characters, and landscapes. The system can also create videos from images or take existing videos and create new ones that are similar.
