X users have found many unlabeled ads on their following feed, which usually show up as a post that someone they follow shares. Ads are usually labeled on the app, but some of the ads on the platform don’t carry the label. It was first reported by TechCrunch.
These unlabeled ads show up in the feed between posts and other labeled ads, the only way to know that these are ads is to press the 3 dot menu on the top right. The menu presents “Not interested in this ad” or “Why this ad?” options as on regular ads. This change might be due to a minor glitch in the advertising platform on the app or a new policy that will be misleading as ads need to show the ad label as a way to inform users.
Previously, ads had ‘Promoted’ tag on the bottom of the ads along with an arrow on the right to label ads, but X has made this new update which tags ads with ‘Ad’ on the top right corner, which some users say is to make ads less noticeable.
Users have also come across these unlabeled ads and complained on the app.
